Sidney McManus

On January 28th, 2012 students from Mr. Holt's class at South Technical High School competed in the Missouri Welding Institutes 2nd annual High School welding competition. This is a very competitive welding contest where students are given a set of blue prints and have to assemble and weld according to given specifications under a time restraint. There were roughly 108 students from Missouri, Kansas, and Kentucky at this competition. Prizes were awarded for 1st thru 10th place. This was the second time that South Tech High School students competed in this competition and all 5 of the students placed within the top ten.

Sidney McManus took 1st place receiving a "Full Ride" scholarship (value of $11,900) a Lincoln generator welder (Value of $2,200) plus an additional $500 scholarship, and a new trophy. Sidney plans to continue his education at MWI this June in the Master Pipe and Structural Program.

Justin Rush took 2nd place receiving a "Half Tuition" scholarship (value of $5,950), a Victor Journeyman cutting torch outfit (Value of $400.00), a trophy, plus an additional $500.00 scholarship. Justin plans to continue his education at MWI this June in the Master Pipe and Structural Program.

Brendan Hobbs placed 5th overall receiving a new trophy, new welding helmet, and a $500 scholarship which he will use to continue his education this June at MWI. Brendan is enrolled in the Master Pipe and Structural Program.

Tyler Achilles placed 6th overall receiving a $500 scholarship and a new trophy. Tyler plans on furthering his education at Missouri Welding Institute this summer.

Tony Weathers placed 7th overall receiving a $500 scholarship and a new trophy. Tony has already enrolled at MWI in the Master Pipe and Structural Program and has a start date in June.
