Lowe’s Donates Tools to South Technical High School As Part of National Tough Tools for Cool Schools Program

St. Louis, MO May 4, 2009-Lowe's and Kobalt Tools in partnership with SkillsUSA are helping the next generation of skilled trade professionals a South Technical High School through their new Tough Tools for Cool Schools program. Lowe's is donating approximately $600 worth of Kobalt tools to the school as part of their new national program, which will total $300,000 to more than 500 SkillsUSA building trades and renovation programs across the nation for use in their classrooms.

National Technical Honor Society Induction at South Tech

National Technical Honor Society
The NTHS induction ceremony took place at South Tech on Tuesday May 5th, 2009. NTHS recognizes students for outstanding ability in their career field. Additionally, all students inducted maintained a 3.0 GPA at their home school as well as South Tech. They had minimal absences or tardies and show a strong sense of community service or volunteerism. All these students received their teacher's recommendation.

Students Qualify for the "Hands-On" Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills National Quality Care Challenge

Zachary Thornton and Eric Allinder, Automotive Technology students, have won the right to compete in the "Hands-On" Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills National Quality Care Challenge.

The contest will feature 10 two-person teams from 10 schools with automotive technology programs and will be held on May 7 at the Kansas City Speedway. The teams will race against the clock to diagnose and repair deliberately "bugged" 2009 Ford vehicles. At stake is more than $150,000 in scholarships to technical colleges and a trip to Dearborn, Michigan to represent Missouri in the National Finals in June at Ford's world headquarters.

Zachary and Eric qualified for the state finals by competing in a written exam open to all automotive technology students in high schools throughout Missouri. John Arndt is the students' instructor and will accompany the students to the contest.
